Douglass describes his battle with Mr. Covey as the "turning point" in his life as a slave. How does the fight transform Douglass' thinking?
Have you ever been through a life-changing experience like this? What happened, and how were you different afterwards?

His thinking change because he realizes that since he found out that they didn't want him to read an write because that would make him understand more of what going on an by him finding this out that made him want to read an write more than ever. Even if he had to sneak an do it.
Douglass now feel superior about himself. He feels he is becoming a man, he has gained self-confidence and inspiration to no longer be a slave. Yes, I have been in an life-changing event that effected me. It happened in middle, I had friends that were not so good so, one day they assaulted another student. The next day I was accused of one of the boys who assaulted the student and my friends did not take responsibility of stating I did not participate in the issue. After, that i am very careful of who ever call their self a friend.
I think taht Douglass is becoming an older more responsible person and is understanding what is going on in his life more. This fight transforms his thinkings because Mr. Convey doesn't want him to do certain things and it makes Douglass do them more because you shouldn't stop doing something because one person tells you to. No, I don't recall being in that kind of a situation but there probably was a similar kind of thing that happened to me like that.
I think that this battle is the "turning point" because I think that Douglass is starting to realize that it is time for a change. He doesnt want to be a slave for all of his life and since he has learned how to read when "white" people said that it was bad for a slave to read, opened so many doors for him and him running away to be free is just another door opened.
Frederick Douglass knew that he didn't want to be a slave anymore. He knew that Mr. Convey didn't want him to read or write so that he could learn about what was going on. Douglass wanted to read and write. I have been in that situation before. I just wanted certain people in school to like me. I try to make them happy, but they sometimes say negative things about me for no paricular reason. I just want them to like me. That's what makes life so cruel sometimes because I knoe I don't deserve to be treated like that. Can't we all just get along???
I think that Douglass is now really realizing that because of his skin color and background that certain people that's around him in his life such as his slave owners. They don't want him to do well in his life. I think that was the turning point of the story because he seen how they reacted towards him after they realized that he just wasn't no dumb African slave. I had many changes and turning points in my life a lot of them had taught me a lot of lessons in my life that will help me out later on in my future.
It seems that we all have come to the realization of Douglass growth. Douglass' knowledge has influenced him to over come his current situation as a slave. I think that the constant beatings of Mr. Covey could have also influenced Douglass' reation. Douglass' turning point in his life was a beneficiant one. Yet I have one turning point where the outcome was not good. The death of my grandmother just took me and my family by suprise and for awhile my mind was more focused on death than my school work. And I still struggle with situation.
its malik im late but here it go. I think that Mr. Freeman was more fair than Mr. Covey. Mr. Covey was very strict and he also beat Douglass for being as ackward he was working in the field. Mr. Covey beat him for no reasons. But, Mr. Freeman, being a educated man. treat Douglass like he was human. He give Dougless what he need.
Life of Frederick Douglass
This is the sence when Frederick Douglass once to llearn how to read. One of the his masters wanted to help him while one didn't think he was good enough to learn because he was black. That was the turning point of his life. Because when his master found out he got punished.
